3RD CIRCULAR

Dear Colleagues,

the abstracts submitted to the 13th Congressus Internationalis Fenno-Ugristarum have now been evaluated, and notifications have been sent to the authors. In what follows, please find some information about your registration and participation, the programme of the conference and the practical arrangements of your travel.

REGISTRATION AND PARTICIPATION FEES

In a few days, registration to the congress will begin on our website. During March and April, the early bird fees will apply: 220 € / 150 € (the reduced fee is for students and participants from Russia, Ukraine, Serbia or those countries which have joined the EU in or after 2004). Pre-registration will be possible till the 15th of June (regular fees in May and June: 250 € / 180 €), on-site registration during the congress will cost 300 €.

The fees cover the congress material, pause refreshments served in the coffee breaks and the evening programme, but NOT the lunches. (It is logistically impossible to organize lunches for all participants at the campus. The campus area and its vicinity have numerous restaurants and cafés in different price classes, there is a grocery store in the campus area and further ones nearby.) For the reception at the City Hall on Thursday, we collect a fee of 20 €, in order to avoid no-shows.

If you need a visa invitation, please select the appropriate box in the registration form, and fill in the requested information; the invitation will be sent to you.

When registering for the conference, you can order the congress t-shirt and/or the congress gym bag, made of certified fair cotton. (The photo on our website shows the t-shirt and gym bag of last year’s IFUSCO congress; our t-shirts and bags will, of course, carry the CIFU logo.)

PROGRAMME

The congress will begin with a welcome reception in the courtyard (Arkadenhof) of the University Main Building on Sunday, August 16, and continue in the campus area (“Altes AKH”) from Monday till Friday. An overview of the schedule can be found at https://cifu13.univie.ac.at/programme/ . The opening and the plenary talks will take place in the big auditorium (C1) of the Hörsaalzentrum in the campus; other general sessions and symposia will be held in the lecture rooms of various departments of the campus area. For more information, see https://cifu13.univie.ac.at/venue/.

We may have as many as 10–15 symposia and sessions running parallelly. It is therefore vital that all of them stick to the system of 30-minute slots. This means that for each talk, there will be ideally 20 minutes for the presentation, 5–7 minutes for discussion and 3–5 minutes for moving between lecture halls. The lecture halls have the usual facilities: a computer with Internet connection and projector. If you need special equipment for your presentation, please contact us in advance.

Please note that all abstracts submitted to symposia could not be accepted as symposium presentations but may have been reassigned to the general sessions. The symposium organizers have now received lists of the presentations assigned to them, and we have requested them to contact all their participants. If your abstract was submitted to a symposium and accepted but you do not hear from your symposium organizer, it is probable that your talk was moved to the general session. The list of symposia is at https://cifu13.univie.ac.at/programme/symposia/; more detailed programmes of all symposia and sessions will appear on the website shortly before the beginning of the congress.

The abstracts will be published on our website; no paper publication of all abstracts or proceedings is planned. If the author does not arrive to the congress to present his/her paper, the abstract will be removed from the website.

The social programme also includes an evening reception at the City Hall of Vienna on Thursday, August 20. We will not organize bus excursions, but, weather permitting, there will be a possibility to participate in a walking excursion to the Kahlenberg hill on Saturday, after the congress, ending in a (self-paid) trip to a typical Viennese wine establishment ("Heurigen"). You can sign up for this walking trip at the registration desk.

TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION

Information about travelling to Vienna can be found on our website at https://cifu13.univie.ac.at/venue/travel-arrangements/. There is a flight offer by Austrian Airlines (15% off all applicable fares), but for climate-conscious participants, we also cordially recommend travelling by land (see e.g. www.oebb.at for train connections to Vienna).

On our website, you will also find a link to a pre-selection of hotels. Of course, you are free to organize your accommodation as you wish; Vienna has a wide selection of hotels, hostels and other types of tourist accommodation.

Vienna has an excellent and affordable public transportation system. If your accommodation is beyond walking distance from the university campus, the weekly pass for city transportation (Wiener Linien), 17.10 €, might be the best option. (NB! Weekly passes are valid from Monday 12:00 am until the following Monday 9:00 am; you need to get a separate ticket if you arrive on Sunday.) Single, daily and weekly tickets can be bought at ticket machines, online or with the smartphone app “WienMobil”. For more information see wienerlinien.at (in German or English).
